Across the Tran Phu bridge is a different Nha Trang: Pham Van Dong runs right along the water under the hills, then the Hòn Chồng scenic area, then the streets behind it. Doan Tran Nghiep, Lac Thien. It is about ten minutes by motorbike from the tourist quarter, and the ride is worth it for one of three things.

First, price. Cà phê Hòn Chồng View at 6 Pham Van Dong has black coffee at 23,000₫. The cheapest board these café pages have recorded, and it looks straight out at the Hòn Chồng headland. Tiệm cà phê at 30/17 Doan Tran Nghiep is lighter still, from 22,000₫; the shop is genuinely called "the coffee shop", so searching by name is hopeless. Use the map button.

Second, the rocks and the sunrise. Coffee Baka sits inside the Hòn Chồng grounds and opens at 6:00, closest to the stones; Moonlight Chill on Pham Van Dong puts you face-on to the sea. The city looks east, so the sun comes up out of the water. This is a sunrise coast, not a sunset one. Both are trips for the view; if you want a good cup, Nora Coffee Roastery at 85 Doan Tran Nghiep is the only roaster north of the river.

Third, hours. Yên Cafe 24/7 at 21 Lac Thien is the only place on this site that writes 24/7 into its own name: but it is small and quiet, so if you are counting on three in the morning, ring first. Otherwise this run shuts early: five open at 6:00 but only Metrang at 22 Pham Van Dong stays open to 23:00. After 22:30, head back into town, see cafés that stay open late.

And what to know before starting the bike: this run is weaker than the centre. The coffee at most of these places is ordinary, and a few are plainly weak. Cà Phê Bar Sky Garden at 49 Cu Chi and Amazon at 83 Dang Tat are both trips of convenience rather than quality, and Amazon's address is garbled on the map, so use the button. Come here for the rocks, the prices or the sunrise; come for the coffee and you should stay in the centre.

    30/17 Doan Tran Nghiep, down a lane near Nha Trang University, and the shop really is called the coffee shop, so searching by name is hopeless. Cheap, big chairs, plenty of sockets. A good place to work. It has added a music box, so it is louder now.

The same road holds Metrang at 22, open to 23:00, and The Busa Park at 69.

Are cafés in north Nha Trang cheaper than in the centre?

By the boards we could read, yes: Cà phê Hòn Chồng View at 23,000–45,000₫ and Tiệm cà phê at 22,000–45,000₫ are the two cheapest on these pages. In the tourist quarter, meanwhile, The Cloud Bar runs 300,000–900,000₫ and Alpaca's mains 135,000–285,000₫. But this compares a handful of boards rather than area averages.

For the sunrise, north or centre?

Both face east, so both see the sun come out of the sea; the difference is the seat. The north has Coffee Baka and Cà phê Hòn Chồng View, both open at 6:00 and both looking at the rocks, plus Moonlight Chill facing the water.
