Overview

Officially the Cathedral of Christ the King, but everyone in Nha Trang calls it the Stone Church because it stands on a small rocky rise in the middle of town. It was built from 1928 to 1933 in cut stone, in a scaled-down Gothic style, with a clock tower that still keeps time.

The ramp up passes the Ave Maria square. Inside, the stained glass catches the light beautifully in the late afternoon. The church is a few hundred metres from Nha Trang railway station, so it's easy to slot in if you arrive by train.

What sets it apart from other Vietnamese churches is that it is central rather than out on the edge of town, so it fits into a morning on foot without hiring anything. The forecourt looks down over part of the city: not a panorama, but enough to see how Nha Trang is wedged between hills and water.

Remember this is a working parish church, not a ticketed sight. Entry is free, but during mass the interior belongs to the congregation — you may still go in, so move quietly, do not photograph inside, and cover shoulders and knees as at any place of worship.
