Things to see in Nha Trang
Nha Trang faces east, so the best of it is not the beach in front of the promenade but the nineteen islands in the bay — Hòn Mun for coral, Hòn Tằm and Hòn Miễu for a quiet swim. On shore there is the Ponagar Cham tower complex, begun in the 8th century, and the stone cathedral of 1928. February to August is the calm season; October to December brings rain and rough water, and island tours are cancelled often.
Where to eat
Nha Trang's best food is a morning affair and sells out by nine or ten: fish noodle soup, thick bánh canh with fish cake, jellyfish noodles. Grilled pork rolls run all day. The general rule is to avoid the Trần Phú beachfront, where the same dish costs two or three times as much, and walk inland instead — Ngô Gia Tự, Lê Đại Hành, Đầm market. A proper breakfast here is 30,000–60,000₫.
Chill cafés
Two clearly different things. Sea-view cafés along Trần Phú and Phạm Văn Đồng cost more but earn a whole afternoon; garden cafés inland are cheaper, cooler, and where locals actually sit. An iced milk coffee is 15,000–25,000₫ at a street stall and 55,000–90,000₫ with a sea view. Late afternoon is the hour to go, once the sun is off the water.
Where to stay
Two genuinely different holidays. City hotels along Trần Phú put the beach, the food and the market within walking distance — right if you intend to move around. The resorts on Bãi Dài and in Cam Ranh have a far emptier, cleaner stretch of sand and sit 15–25 minutes from the airport, but 40–50 minutes from Nha Trang itself, and you will eat on site. Cam Ranh to rest, the city to explore.
Things to do in Nha Trang
These need booking and half a day or more; they are not places to drop into. The hot mineral mud bath is Nha Trang's own speciality — four or five sites, 100,000–400,000₫ depending on where and whether pools are included. Snorkelling centres on Hòn Mun, Vietnam's first marine protected area. Island trips depend entirely on the weather, so never put one on your last day.
Evening eats in Nha Trang
An evening out in Nha Trang means seafood and sea snails, starting around five. Pavement snail places charge per plate, 40,000–80,000₫ a variety; live-tank seafood is sold by the kilo, and that is where bills go wrong — ask the per-kilo price and watch the scales before agreeing. For a group, pick somewhere with long tables and parking rather than somewhere with a view.

The airport is 35 km out
Cam Ranh airport sits to the south. Bus 18 costs around 65,000₫ per person, a taxi 350,000–450,000₫. Budget 45–60 minutes each way.
Eat breakfast on local time
The best fish noodle and bánh căn places sell out by 9 or 10 in the morning. Show up late and you're left with the tourist-facing spots.
Agree on the seafood price first
Seafood is sold by the kilo at prices that move daily. Have it weighed in front of you and settle the price before it hits the grill.
