Overview

Renting a motorbike is something almost every visitor staying more than two days in Nha Trang ends up doing, because the places most worth going: Hòn Chồng, Bãi Dài, the restaurants out at Vĩnh Ngọc, are all beyond walking distance. This page does not rank the seven shops below, because what decides it is not which is better but which is near you and has a bike free that day. What the page does is give you the address, the phone number and what to check before you ride off.

Four are in or beside the tourist quarter, close enough to walk to: San Hô Việt at 44/42 Biệt Thự, Khải Uy at 46/8 Lê Thánh Tôn, Vietmoto at 74 Trần Nguyên Hãn and Bike Nha Trang at 41 Hồng Bàng. The other three are further out: Nghĩa at 4 Hòn Chồng in the north, Khánh Hoà Motorbike at 171 Phong Châu in the south, and Autobike4 in the Mỹ Gia estate. Distance matters less than you would think, though, because most of them deliver to where you are staying. Khải Uy and Nghĩa work almost entirely by handover outside hotel doors.

Two of them offer something worth knowing about. Vietmoto rents electric scooters: the whole orange fleet out front is electric. So if you would rather avoid petrol fumes or only ride around town, that is a different option. Its sign is printed in three languages, Vietnamese, English and Russian, so foreign visitors are the core custom. Autobike4 in the Mỹ Gia estate rents both electric scooters and self-drive cars, its sign advertising delivery and quick paperwork, the only one of the seven with four wheels.

The most useful part of this page is five things to do before you pay. One, photograph all four sides of the bike and the odometer on the spot, in front of the person renting it to you. That is the only evidence that protects you when you return it. Two, squeeze both brakes, switch on both lights and try the hazards while the bike is still standing still. Three, settle the fuel: if it comes full it goes back full, so note the level when you take it. Four, ask what happens if it breaks down on the road. A decent shop answers immediately with a number and how long help takes. Five, wear the helmet they give you, but test the buckle first; a broken strap means ask for another.

On paperwork: shops in Nha Trang usually hold a document or take a cash deposit, and some of them do hold the original passport. Where you can, hand over a copy rather than the original passport, and if a shop insists on the original, consider paying a cash deposit instead. And one thing no shop will tell you: an international licence under the Vienna Convention is what your travel insurer will ask for if something happens, even though the rental shop almost never does.

None of them posts a rate on Maps, and the price moves with the model, the number of days and the season. So ringing first is the only way to know. All seven numbers sit under the names at the foot of the page. If you only need one trip rather than a whole day, two cheaper options exist: a ride-hailing motorbike in town, or a taxi for the long runs.

    44/42 Biệt Thự, inside the tourist quarter, open from 4am. The earliest of the seven, useful if you want the bike in hand before an early run to Bãi Dài. It is attached to a tour company (the sign reads Viet Coral Tourist), so it sells trips as well as bikes, which is also why most of its customers arrive as a group and take the bikes together. Being in the Biệt Thự lanes, it is walkable from most quarter hotels.

    41 Hồng Bàng, open 07:00–22:00. The shop with the largest visible fleet: around twenty bikes lined along the frontage, from manuals to automatics to a sports bike. A big fleet means it is easy to swap if the first one does not suit, which is worth more than a small difference in price. About five minutes by road from the tourist quarter.

    74 Trần Nguyên Hãn, open 09:00–20:00. The shop that rents electric scooters: the whole orange fleet out front is electric, and inside there is a rack of helmets and a tidy paperwork counter. Its sign is printed in Vietnamese, English and Russian. Electric suits town riding and the run up to Hòn Chồng; if you are heading for Bãi Dài or Hòn Bà, ask about range on a charge before you take it. It opens at 09:00, so not the one for an early start.

    46/8 Lê Thánh Tôn, and Maps lists it as always open. A small shop up a lane, but the thing worth saying is how it works: almost all of the trade is handed over outside hotel doors, which means you do not need to visit at all. Ring the number, name a time and an address, and the bike comes to you. If you do want to go in person, follow the pin rather than the house number.

    4 Hòn Chồng. The only shop on the northern run, useful if you are staying around Phạm Văn Đồng, Đường Đệ or near the Hòn Chồng rocks, since renting there saves the trip into town. Maps lists it as always open. It delivers too, and they service the bikes themselves rather than only hiring them out.

    The Mỹ Gia estate, open 07:00–23:00. The only one of the seven that also rents self-drive cars, alongside electric scooters; the sign advertises quick paperwork and delivery. A small electric car sits out front beside a few electric scooters. It is well out of the centre in a southern estate, so if you want the car, have it delivered. A general note for any car hire: settle the insurance and the excess before you sign.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. A Google score appears only when Maps carries both the score and the number of reviews — a bare average cannot be weighed, so this page leaves it out. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.

What does a motorbike cost a day in Nha Trang?

None of the seven posts a rate on Maps, and the price moves with the model, the number of days and the season. Each shop's number is under its name at the foot of the page. Ring to ask the rate, and ask in the same call whether they deliver to where you are staying.

Do I need a licence to rent a motorbike?

Shops in Nha Trang almost never ask, but that is a different matter from being allowed to ride. Your travel insurer will ask for an international licence under the Vienna Convention if something happens, so without one you are carrying the risk yourself. Shops usually hold a document or take a cash deposit; offer a copy rather than your original passport.

Can I rent an electric scooter or a self-drive car?
