Overview
Skylight occupies the upper floor of the Havana hotel at 38 Tran Phu, in the middle of the beach strip. The city has no other high viewpoint open to visitors: from here you get the whole six kilometres of Tran Phu beach, Hon Tre and the cable car across the bay, and to the west the ranges behind the city. That is what people pay to come up for.
The thing to check first is the hours, because the sources disagree. The venue's own listing gives 17:00 to 00:45, and closed on Mondays. Meanwhile several ticket sellers advertise a daytime window for the observation deck. From 8:00 or 8:30. Both cannot be true every day, so if you plan a daytime visit, ask before you go; in the evening, go by the venue's own hours.
There are two price levels, and it is worth picking the right one. The observation deck is the cheap one, around 50,000₫. Enough if all you want is to look at the city and take photographs. Entry to the rooftop club is about 190,000₫ and usually includes a drink. From late afternoon on this is a club in the full sense: loud, crowded, a pool in the middle, and not a place for conversation.
Said plainly so you don't spend in the wrong place: if you want a quiet evening looking at the sea, the beachside places suit you better. Skylight is for getting high up, taking a run of photographs as the light turns, and then deciding whether to stay. Arrive about forty minutes before sunset and you get both. Enough light to read the bay, and the city switching on while you are still there.
Same part of the evening: bars, karaoke and late cafés.
Worth knowing
- The only high viewpoint in the city open to visitors
- The full Tran Phu shore, Hon Tre and the cable car
- The deck ticket costs a fraction of club entry
Practical tips
- Closed Mondays on the venue's own listing, don't turn up on a Monday
- If you only want the view, buy the deck ticket at around 50,000₫
- From late afternoon it is loud and busy, not a place to talk
- The daytime hours ticket sites advertise don't match the venue's: ask first
Frequently asked
How much is entry to Skylight?
Two levels: the observation deck at around 50,000₫, and rooftop club entry at about 190,000₫, usually with a drink included. Take the cheaper one if all you want is the view.
What are Skylight's hours?
The venue's own listing says 17:00–00:45, closed Mondays. Some ticket sellers also advertise a daytime window for the deck; the two do not agree, so ask if you plan to go in daylight.
Is it suitable with children?
The observation deck, yes, if you go early. From late afternoon the rooftop is a club: loud music, crowds and a pool. Not a place for small children.
