Overview

Highlands is the densest coffee chain in Nha Trang: twenty-nine branches, six of them on the Tran Phu strip itself and two more a few doors apart on Da Tuong. Since the menu is identical everywhere, the only question worth asking is which one to walk into, and the answer changes depending on whether you want a seat, an hour, or simply air conditioning.

On hours, almost the whole chain runs 7:00–23:00, which makes it the fallback once the independents shut at 22:00. Two open half an hour earlier: 24 Tran Phu and the VietSky branch at 80 Le Dai Hanh, both from 6:30. If you want chain coffee before seven, those are the only two. Three close earlier: Gold Coast at 1 Tran Hung Dao and Phuoc Long at 22:00, and the VinWonders branch keeps park hours, 8:00–20:00. Four sit inside malls or supermarkets. Nha Trang Center, Vincom, Lotte, so their hours are the building's rather than the chain's.

If you need somewhere to sit, use the branch at 12 Han Thuyen: three floors, roomy, comfortable seating, and the one branch whose service holds up: quick staff, a helpful guard on the bikes, tables cleared in time. Early morning it is empty and cool. The Pham Van Dong branch on the Ton That Tung corner also works: airy and quiet enough to work in the morning, at its best in the evening, and it runs cake-and-drink combos cheaper than ordering separately, four cream puffs with a tea for about 69,000₫. The chain's best-selling drink is the almond phindi.

For a seat facing the sea, 22 Tran Phu is the only one that looks straight at the water, with two caveats: the morning sun comes into the seats, and it has few tables, so at peak it fills and still takes customers. And if all you want is to get out of the heat mid-walk along Tran Phu, the Nha Trang Center branch at number 20 is the nearest, with the mall's air conditioning and toilets.

A chain write-up usually leaves this out: service is the weak point at Highlands in Nha Trang, and it is not one branch's problem. The same things recur at five different branches: twenty minutes for three takeaway drinks in a half-empty room, an order rung up late and then made without anyone being called, drinks made wrong despite a written note, and vouchers the chain has advertised are sometimes not applied. The two weakest are 105 Da Tuong and 9 Tran Quang Khai. If you are short of time, do not pick Highlands, and if you are using a promotion, ask before you order.

Two notes on navigation. Highlands' own branch list is missing four addresses the map carries: 9 Tran Quang Khai, 22 Tran Phu, 65 Le Thanh Ton and the branch at 3 Hòn Chồng, so if the company's page does not show the one you are standing next to, that does not mean it is not there. In the other direction, the company's list carries two names at the same 1 Tran Hung Dao, Gold Coast and Viễn Đông, with two different phone numbers. Use the map button on each card.

Beyond Nha Trang the province has four more: two counters at Cam Ranh airport: genuinely useful if you are waiting for a flight, one open 7:00–23:00 and one 8:00–22:00, one in Cam Ranh city at 407 on 3 Thang 4 street, and two in Phan Rang. They are not in this list because this page is about Nha Trang.

If you have come to Nha Trang for a memorable cup, a chain is not the place. The five roasters do that far better, and the fifteen worth your time are all independents. Highlands solves other problems: air conditioning, wifi, clean toilets, long hours, and a menu you already know. The city's other chain is Trung Nguyên, with twelve branches.

Three things to know: the wifi is close to unusable, the newer drinks are neither sweet nor clean-tasting, with hard tapioca.     In the tourist quarter, 7:00–23:00. Convenient if you are sleeping nearby. But this is one of the two weakest branches for service, and what happens repeats: drinks made and nobody called, an order not rung up for nearly twenty minutes, staff unaware of the chain's own promotions. Regulars of the chain elsewhere find this branch well below the rest. This address is not on Highlands' own branch list.

If you are in a hurry or particular about your order, pick another branch.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.

What should you order at Highlands?

The almond phindi is the drink customers name most at the Nha Trang branches. Sweet, rich, with topping. The peach jelly tea is consistent too. Two practical notes: the drinks come heavy on ice so the glass looks short, and asking for less is worth doing; and if you write a note such as cream and ice on the side, check it when it arrives, because this is where the mistakes happen.
