Overview

The first thing to know is that Trung Nguyên in Nha Trang comes in two formats that share a logo and little else. Legend Café is company-run: larger rooms, a kitchen, breakfast and full dishes, and a choice of bean for your coffee. E-Coffee is the franchise line: smaller shops, shorter menus, and because each has its own owner, the quality varies visibly. If you want to know what you are getting, pick Legend.

The one to visit is Cà Phê Thế Giới Trung Nguyên Legend at 44–46 Le Thanh Ton. The chain's largest format, open 6:30–22:00. The coconut coffee here is light and fragrant, right for anyone who cannot take it strong, and foreign visitors take to it. But service at this same branch is the weakest: you have to ask before an order is taken, a table number tossed onto the counter, an order not rung up and then a drink missing. Off-peak is easier.

For working there are two. Legend at 148 Vo Tru, open 6:30–21:30, is the quietest branch and the one people use for meetings and study. It also serves phở khô Gia Lai, a dish you rarely find in Nha Trang, dear but well made. Legend at 43 Quang Trung, 6:00–22:00, is large and clean and holds its standard across repeat visits; the toilets and the upstairs air conditioning are the two things that need attention. Both open early, which makes this the chain to use for a six-o'clock coffee.

Two are worth it for the room rather than the coffee. E-Coffee CT1 Riverside in the VCN development to the south, 6:00–22:00, has outdoor seating by the river: there is a breeze in the evening, and it is the branch that suits small children best. Legend at VCN Tower, 02 To Huu, also south and also open at 6:00: the salted coffee is its strongest drink, and the breakfast is genuinely good, bún bò and bún thịt nướng. And E-Coffee at 06 Cù Huân in the north has two floors, air conditioning, and a seat beside the Tran Phu bridge.

Three to avoid, or to go to prepared. Legend in the OC2 Oceanus building: tables set close together, cramped, weak air conditioning and used glasses left on the table. Legend at 145 Ngo Gia Tu is new and still narrow, with too little parking. E-Coffee Annova at 5 Ly Tu Trong charges 40,000₫ for a black coffee, above the other E-Coffees, and levied a 20% surcharge over Tet while still serving in disposable cups. If you are going over a holiday, ask the price first.

One thing to be straight about this list: it is built from the map rather than from Trung Nguyên's own branch directory. For Highlands that method produced eight branches while the company lists twenty-seven. More than two thirds missing. So Trung Nguyên very likely has outlets this page does not know about, the newer E-Coffee kiosks especially. If you walk past a shop that is not below, that is this page's gap and not yours.

Beyond the twelve at the foot of the page there are five smaller E-Coffee kiosks in the city: on Cao Ba Quat, Cao Van Be, Thai Nguyen, 19/5 street and one to the south. They are too new or too small to say anything reliable about, so the page does not list them; if you pass an E-Coffee sign, read it as a franchise shop with a short menu and an owner-dependent standard. And if you came to Nha Trang for a memorable cup, a chain is not the place, the five roasters do that better.

Light, fragrant, right for anyone who cannot take it strong, and foreign visitors take to it. Service is the clear weak point, though: you may have to ask before an order is taken, a table number gets tossed onto the counter, and an order can go unrung with a drink then missing. Off-peak is much easier.

The coffee is consistent, and it serves phở khô Gia Lai, a dish rarely found in Nha Trang: dearer than the going rate but well made. If you are in the city and do not know where to sit, this is the safe answer.

What is worth saying, though, is the breakfast: the bún bò and bún thịt nướng are genuinely well made, and there is chicken rice on the menu, which makes this a branch for a meal rather than just a cup. Airy room, easy staff.

This is the breakfast branch: a food-and-drink combo at 65,000–105,000₫, well-judged dry hủ tiếu, strong coffee and fragrant tea. Useful if you want to eat and drink in one place rather than two. The eggs with bread are not its strength. The map address is unclear, so use the button.

    Open 6:30–22:00. A large room, handsomely fitted, and its own strength is that you can choose the bean for a black or a milk coffee. But this is the one I would leave for last: tables set close together make it cramped, the air conditioning is weak, the chairs are uncomfortable, used glasses go uncleared even when the room is empty, and the matcha is very thin. Order coffee, not matcha.

    Central, and the one I would leave for last. A black coffee is 40,000₫, above the other E-Coffees in the city. Over Tet it added a 20% surcharge while still serving in disposable cups, and the air-conditioned room has been closed to customers, leaving people outside at midday. The food gets praise, but at that price there are better places within walking distance.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. A Google score appears only when Maps carries both the score and the number of reviews — a bare average cannot be weighed, so this page leaves it out. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.

For coffee from six in the morning: 43 Quang Trung, VCN Tower, or 07 Hoang Hoa Tham.

Do the Nha Trang branches serve food?

The Legend branches do. At VCN Tower the bún bò and bún thịt nướng get praise, and there is chicken rice on the menu. At 148 Vo Tru there is phở khô Gia Lai. Rare in Nha Trang, dear but well made. One E-Coffee runs breakfast-and-drink combos at 65,000–105,000₫, with dry hủ tiếu and eggs with bread. The smaller E-Coffee kiosks usually pour drinks only.
