Overview

There is more Japanese food in Nha Trang than people expect: twelve restaurants, in three quite different kinds. Knowing which is which saves a wrong door. Conveyor-belt sushi: Mikado Sushi inside AB Central Square, the busiest of them. Izakaya, the Japanese drinking-and-skewers kind: KIWAMI on Hồng Bàng, Momonosuke and San Izakaya. Full-menu Japanese restaurants: MITAMI, Sakura, Hanami, Uni Sushi: sushi, ramen and rice on one list.

The thing most worth knowing before you set out: four of them close in the afternoon. IZAKAYA KIWAMI runs 11:30–13:30 and reopens at 17:00. MITAMI 11:00–14:00, then 17:00–22:00. Hanami 10:00–14:00, then 16:00–22:00. Sushi Tokyo Sachi 10:30–14:00, then 16:30–22:00. So if you eat at three in the afternoon, a common hour, straight off a boat, those four are shut, while Mikado, Sakura, Ya!, Uni Sushi and Kaito stay open through.

At the other end of the clock, San Izakaya at 91 Bạch Đằng opens at 17:00 and runs to 4am. The latest not only here but across most of the food section. Momonosuke goes to 23:30. The rest mostly close at 22:00, so after ten at night there are exactly two names left.

On price there are two boards at the shops themselves, not figures copied from an article. KIWAMI chalks its specials at 140,000–180,000₫ a dish: squid with mentaiko and seared mentaiko sashimi both at 160,000₫. Sakura prints a full menu: a hotpot, kaisen nabe, USA-beef shabu shabu or sukiyaki, is 380,000₫, with extra beef or seafood at 250,000₫. One line on that menu is worth reading twice: a 100,000₫ surcharge for every bottle brought in from outside. Sushi Tokyo Sachi lists assorted sashimi plates around 185,000–198,000₫.

On location: the densest cluster is on Hồng Bàng (KIWAMI at 114, Kaito at 51) and Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai (MITAMI at 72, Momonosuke down the 71/5 lane). Both within a kilometre of the 2/4 square and walkable from the quarter. The outlier is Uni Sushi in the Napoleon Castle complex on Nguyễn Đình Chiểu, 3.4 km north; you will need a vehicle, but it is also the only entry on this page in the northern half of the city.

One note on choosing: these twelve sit very close together in quality, which makes ranking them against each other almost useless. What actually separates them is kind, hours and distance, which is what this page is arranged around. The other foreign kitchens here: Korean restaurants and Russian ones: the city has enough Russian visitors to keep a handful of genuinely Russian kitchens going.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. A Google score appears only when Maps carries both the score and the number of reviews — a bare average cannot be weighed, so this page leaves it out. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.
