Overview

Nha Trang has more Russian visitors than any other city in Vietnam, so this page should have existed long ago. The site had Japanese, Korean and Chinese restaurants before it had a Russian one. Say this before the list: of the six places Maps files as Russian restaurants, only three actually cook Russian food. The other three are Vietnamese kitchens with Russian menus. Useful, but a different thing.

The three that cook Russian. Oh, Pelmeshki! at 34/2 Nguyễn Thiện Thuật is the first to try: a blue building in the middle of the quarter, signed "Russian cuisine restaurant", and a kitchen that delivers what the name promises. Hand-folded pelmeni and vareniki in every shape laid out on trays, cutlets with mashed potato, herring in cream, and borscht served with salo and dark rye, which you rarely see outside Russia. Гранат at 17 Hùng Vương leans Central Asian rather than Russian: steamed manti with sour cream, plov, samsa, lagman. That is the taste of the whole Russian-speaking region, not Moscow alone. World of Dumplings by Domoi at 42 Lê Quý Đôn specialises in coloured filled pasta: its menu lists ravioli at 115,000–130,000₫ for seven pieces.

The other three need stating plainly, because the Maps name sends people to the wrong table. "Nhà Hàng Nga" at 17 Tôn Đản: the actual sign reads "Quán ăn Phương Thảo – Костя, Vietnamese rice, three regions". It is a Vietnamese rice canteen with a Russian nickname, its menu in four languages at 45,000–85,000₫ a plate. Beluga at 1/12 Trần Phú is a Vietnamese seafood restaurant, with Vietnamese, Russian and Kazakh flags on the frontage and a trilingual menu, its foil-baked fish at 155,000–255,000₫. Euro Asia at 98b/11 Trần Phú says what it is in its own logo: a matryoshka holding a noodle bowl. Russian breakfasts (fried eggs with a baguette 44,000₫, eggs with chicken sausage 76,000₫, a fruit plate 96,000₫), steaks, and pho as well.

Going out of curiosity rather than homesickness, order these three. Pelmeni: boiled meat dumplings eaten with sour cream and dill. It is the national dish, and Oh, Pelmeshki! folds them by hand, so the wrapper is nothing like a frozen one. Borscht: beetroot soup cooked with meat, served hot with dark rye and sour cream. Two kitchens in Nha Trang make it, Oh, Pelmeshki! and Гранат. Plov: rice cooked with lamb, carrot and cumin in a big pot, an Uzbek dish. Only Гранат has it. Those three explain why this food is so unlike Southeast Asian cooking. It was built for a cold climate: starch, fat, and very little chilli.

Five of the six are in or beside the tourist quarter and the Trần Phú strip, walkable from most beachfront hotels: Oh, Pelmeshki! on Nguyễn Thiện Thuật, Гранат on Hùng Vương, World of Dumplings on Lê Quý Đôn, Beluga and Euro Asia on Trần Phú. Only "Nhà Hàng Nga" on Tôn Đản sits slightly apart. The hours are kinder than the Japanese restaurants: mostly 10:00–22:00 straight through, Beluga to 23:00, and none of them shuts in the afternoon.

The rest of the set: Japanese, Korean and Chinese restaurants.

34/2 Nguyen Thien Thuat, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.8 Google · 1,590 reviews

34/2 Nguyễn Thiện Thuật in the middle of the quarter. This is the most straightforwardly Russian kitchen of the six. A blue two-storey building signed "Russian cuisine restaurant", with tables out front under string lights. The dumplings are folded by hand: one tray holds a dozen shapes and colours of pelmeni and vareniki. Beyond those there are cutlets with mashed potato, herring in cream, Caesar salad, and borscht served as a full set with salo and dark rye, the correct way to eat it. If you have one Russian meal in Nha Trang, have it here.

  • Granat — Ресторан «Гранат»

17 Hung Vuong, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.7 Google · 635 reviewsOpen 11:00 – 22:00

17 Hùng Vương, open 11:00–22:00. The sign reads "GRANAT Restaurant", and the kitchen leans Central Asian rather than Russian: steamed manti with sour cream, plov from a big pot, baked samsa, lagman-style noodles, alongside borscht and cutlets. This is the taste of the whole Russian-speaking region, not Moscow. And plov is only here among the six. Blue-and-white Uzbek-patterned dishes, a small room, a teapot brought with the meal.

42 Le Quy Don, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.8 Google · 126 reviewsOpen 10:00 – 22:00115,000 – 130,000₫

42 Lê Quý Đôn, open 10:00–22:00. A kitchen built on filled pasta: pelmeni, vareniki and ravioli coloured with vegetable juice, coming out pink, yellow and green and plated like a paint box. The menu prices by the seven-piece portion, 115,000–130,000₫, split by filling: fresh cheese, mushroom, pear with blue cheese. There are dessert crêpes and juices too. A red frontage with two cartoon children on it, easy to spot on Lê Quý Đôn.

  • Euro Asia Café-Restaurant

98b/11 Tran Phu, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.7 Google · 71 reviewsOpen 11:00 – 22:0044,000 – 96,000₫

98b/11 Trần Phú, open 11:00–22:00. The restaurant states what it is in its own logo: a matryoshka holding a noodle bowl. It bridges both sides. Russian breakfasts have the prices printed: fried eggs with a baguette 44,000₫, eggs with chicken sausage 76,000₫, a fruit plate 96,000₫, vegetable omelette 66,000₫. Then steak with mash, baked fish, scallops, and pho. If you are with someone who wants Vietnamese while you want European, this is the table where nobody has to argue.

1/12 Tran Phu, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.6 Google · 88 reviewsOpen 10:00 – 23:00149,000 – 255,000₫

1/12 Trần Phú, open 10:00–23:00, the latest close of the six. But said plainly: the sign reads "BELUGA RESTAURANT — VIET NAM CUISINE", so this is a Vietnamese seafood restaurant serving Russian visitors rather than a Russian kitchen. Vietnamese, Russian and Kazakh flags on the frontage. The menu is trilingual and numbered, with photographs: foil-baked pomfret 255,000₫, red snapper steamed in soy or foil-baked 165,000₫, cobia grilled with chilli salt 155,000₫, fried snapper in tomato sauce 149,000₫. The kitchen also does salads and pasta. Choose it if you want Vietnamese seafood with a Russian menu.

  • Quán ăn Phương Thảo — Костя

17 Ton Dan, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa

    4.5 Google · 31 reviewsOpen 8:30 – 22:0045,000 – 85,000₫

17 Tôn Đản, open 08:30–22:00. Maps files it under Russian restaurants, but the actual sign reads "Quán ăn Phương Thảo – Костя — Vietnamese rice, three regions, morning to evening". It is a Vietnamese rice canteen that took a Russian nickname so customers could ask for it. The wall menu is printed in four languages with photographs: pineapple fried rice and Yangzhou fried rice 45,000₫, rice plates and squid dishes up to 85,000₫. Steel tables, red plastic chairs, open from breakfast. This is where to eat cheap Vietnamese food without pointing. Not where to find pelmeni.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. A Google score appears only when Maps carries both the score and the number of reviews — a bare average cannot be weighed, so this page leaves it out. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.

  • Order pelmeni with sour cream and dill, which is how they are eaten

  • 14:00–17:00 is the quietest window, and none of them closes then

Frequently asked

Where in Nha Trang actually cooks Russian food?

Three: Oh, Pelmeshki! at 34/2 Nguyễn Thiện Thuật (pelmeni, vareniki, borscht, cutlets), Ресторан «Гранат» at 17 Hùng Vương (leaning Central Asian: manti, plov, samsa) and World of Dumplings by Domoi at 42 Lê Quý Đôn (filled pasta and ravioli). The other three on the list are Vietnamese kitchens with Russian menus.

What does a meal at a Russian restaurant cost?

From the venues' own menus: breakfast at Euro Asia 44,000–96,000₫, a seven-piece ravioli portion at World of Dumplings 115,000–130,000₫, baked fish at Beluga 155,000–255,000₫, and a rice plate at Quán ăn Phương Thảo 45,000–85,000₫. These come off menus at one moment, so ask again when you order.

What should I order if I have never eaten Russian food?

Three dishes: pelmeni (boiled meat dumplings with sour cream and dill), borscht (beetroot soup served hot with dark rye) and plov (rice with lamb, carrot and cumin, only at Гранат). This food is mild and starchy, so one portion is usually enough.
