Overview

The cable car linking Nha Trang to Hòn Tre island runs about 3 km across the bay, and it is the longest sea crossing of its kind in the world. Most visitors file it under "how you get to VinWonders", but a quarter of an hour suspended over the water, looking down on fishing boats and back at the receding city, is usually what they remember longer than the park. The mainland station is at Cầu Đá, at the southern end of Trần Phú; the island station sits inside Vinpearl Harbour on Hòn Tre.

The lit towers at night are what make this a photograph. The pylons standing in the water are built in an Eiffel-tower idiom and lit in changing colours after dark. Violet, blue, rainbow, reflected down the bay. From the Trần Phú shore in the evening you can see the whole line of them running out to sea. If you never buy a ticket, that view is still free from the beach.

Three practical things. Hours: the mainland station runs roughly 08:00 to 21:45, the island station opens an hour later and closes at the same time: so the last cabin back is in the evening, late enough to see the lights first. Tickets: sold in packages with VinWonders admission, varying by season and promotion, so this page prints no price, ask at the counter or on the ticket page. Weather: high wind stops the line, and the windy season is October to December, the same window that cancels the island tours and the diving.

On seating: the cabins are small, six people, and every window faces the sea, so there is no bad side, though outbound the right looks back at the city and the Trần Phú strip, and inbound it is the left. For a photograph with a cabin ahead of you as well as the water, sit facing the direction of travel. Anyone uneasy with heights should know in advance: the cabins cross the middle of the bay with nothing under them but water, and they sway slightly at each pylon.

    Cầu Đá at the southern end of Trần Phú. The mainland end of the line, and where you buy a ticket and board. From here you look straight along the cable out to sea, the pylons standing in the water; from a cabin you see the Vinpearl Harbour buildings on the island, and at night the towers are lit violet and rainbow. Inside is the usual turntable where cabins slow to load. About 5 km south of the centre.

    The island end, inside Vinpearl Harbour on Hòn Tre. It opens an hour after the mainland station but closes at the same time, so do not plan an early crossing from this side. What you see as the cabin comes in is a row of European-pastiche painted buildings along the waterfront, a ferris wheel behind them, and a castle lit up at night. Inside the station, red and blue cabins sit on the turntable.

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none.
