Overview

This page does not pretend a shopping mall is a sight. It exists for a real situation: when the sea is up the island boats are cancelled, and when it rains in Nha Trang it rains all afternoon. The six below are every mall large enough to absorb an afternoon: air conditioning, somewhere to eat, mostly a cinema, and three of them sit on Trần Phú itself, walking distance from the beachfront hotels.

Nha Trang Center at 20 Trần Phú is the biggest and the oldest, and the one most of the city walks through. The other five, running inland from the water: AB Central Square (44 Trần Phú), Vincom Plaza Trần Phú (78-80 Trần Phú), Gold Coast Mall (01 Trần Hưng Đạo), Vincom Plaza Lê Thánh Tôn (44-46 Lê Thánh Tôn) and Vincom Plaza Nha Trang (60 Thái Nguyên) out west.

The three Vincom sites are three different buildings with nearly the same name. The easiest mistake on this page. Vincom Plaza Trần Phú is at 78-80 Trần Phú, beside the sea, south of the centre. Vincom Plaza Nha Trang is at 60 Thái Nguyên to the west, near the station and Xóm Mới market. Vincom Plaza Lê Thánh Tôn is at 44-46 Lê Thánh Tôn, a few hundred metres back from the water. Check the pin before ordering a car: the first two are more than two kilometres apart.

Opening times are worth reading first, because none of them opens early. Both Vincom Plazas and Vincom Lê Thánh Tôn open at 10:00 on weekdays and 09:30 at weekends, closing at 22:00. Gold Coast Mall opens earliest at 09:00. AB Central Square opens at 09:30 and on Fridays runs to 23:30. If it is raining at eight in the morning, no mall is open yet. The big supermarkets are, from 07:30, and so is the McDonald's on the AB Central Square frontage, from 07:00.

What is inside matters more than the name over the door, because nearly everything worth going for in these buildings is something with its own page here. Cinemas: Galaxy inside Nha Trang Center, Galaxy Cine+ inside Gold Coast, and Lotte Cinema inside two of the three Vincoms: the city's six screens are on Cinemas. One more is missing here because it lives on the supermarket page: GO! Nha Trang, on đường 19/5 in Vĩnh Điềm Trung, about 6 km west of the sea. It is a genuine mall with a CGV cinema, but what people go there for is the GO! hypermarket, so it sits with Lotte Mart and Co.opmart instead.

    The biggest and oldest here, at 20 Trần Phú facing the beach. The building most of the city walks through, though it is showing its age and some upper units stand empty. The Galaxy Nha Trang Center screens are in this building. Maps publishes no hours for the complex itself, so go by the units inside: mostly 09:30–22:00.

    The earliest opener at 09:00, and the densest in things worth going for: Lotte Mart Gold Coast downstairs, the Galaxy Cine+ screens, and the MUSIC BOX singing booths on the 6th floor. On the Trần Hưng Đạo/Trần Phú corner, about a hundred metres from Nha Trang Center, so the two work as one afternoon.

    The western site, on Thái Nguyên, closer to the railway station and Xóm Mới market than to the sea. About a kilometre and a half from the beach. Inside is Lotte Cinema Nha Trang Thái Nguyên, the busiest screen in the city. This one draws locals more than visitors, so weekends are busier than at the other two.

    The smallest of the three Vincoms but the newest and tidiest, and the easiest to reach: 44-46 Lê Thánh Tôn, a few hundred metres back from the water, about ten minutes' walk from the backpacker quarter. No cinema, so this is the one for when you just want air conditioning and somewhere to eat.

    Mid-stretch on Trần Phú, and the latest closer here: 23:30 on Fridays, 22:20 on Tuesdays, 22:00 otherwise. Inside is the J24 Mart import supermarket, and a McDonald's on the number 44 frontage open 07:00–23:00: two and a half hours before the mall itself, so in early rain it is the first door open here. The building doubles as the local landmark, the foot-massage shops on Hùng Vương all describe themselves as "opposite AB Central Square".

Addresses come from each shop's own Google Maps listing, and the Open map button opens that shop's pin rather than running a search. 18 shops on the site have no listing we could confirm, so they have no button: the address lookup returned a different business, and a button that points at the wrong place is worse than none. A Google score appears only when Maps carries both the score and the number of reviews — a bare average cannot be weighed, so this page leaves it out. Street-food stalls change hours and close without telling anyone; call ahead if you are travelling across town.
