Overview

Bai Dai lies on the road between Cam Ranh airport and the city, about 25 km south of central Nha Trang. The sand shelves gently, the surf is soft, and the beach runs long enough that you can walk for an hour without meeting anyone. Nothing like the crowds on Tran Phu.

In 2004 Bai Dai was voted one of Vietnam's five finest beaches. Large resorts now hold long stretches of it, but public access points remain, with seafood shacks set up right on the sand.

The most useful thing about Bai Dai is where it sits: on the road between Cam Ranh airport and the city. So if you land in the morning or fly out in the evening, it folds into your first or last day at no extra travel. Rather than a 25 km run out from the centre and back.

Do this first

The seafood here comes from stalls set up on the sand, not restaurants with menus. Ask the price before you order. And come early or after 16:00: there is almost no natural shade.

Other beaches: Dốc Lết to the north, Bình Lập further south, and Trần Phú beach in the city itself.

South of the city, before Cam Ranh, there is Costabella Resort.
