Overview

What sets Nha Trang apart from other coastal cities is that you don't have to go anywhere to reach the sea: Tran Phu street runs along the shore for nearly 6 km, hotels on one side, sand on the other. Walk out of your hotel and you're in the water.

Early morning is when the beach belongs to locals — swimming, exercising and playing đá cầu from around 5:30. It's also when the sun is still soft and the sand is cleanest. Parks, a promenade and rows of coconut palms line the shore.

There are lifeguards during the day, which sets it apart from empty beaches like Bai Dai or Doc Let. In exchange it is the busiest stretch — so quiet has to be bought with travel: Bai Dai is 25 km south, Doc Let 50 km north.

On the light: Nha Trang faces east, so the sun rises out of the sea and does not set into it. For sun on the water you need the morning — 5:30 to 7:00 is when the beach belongs to locals swimming, exercising and playing foot-badminton, and it is also the cleanest hour of the day. For a sunset you need height or an island.

Don't miss

  • Nearly 6 km of continuous sand in the city centre
  • A seafront park and promenade
  • The early-morning rhythm of local life
  • Loungers and umbrellas for rent along much of it

Practical tips

  • Between 11:00 and 15:00 the sun is fierce, with almost no natural shade
  • Don't leave belongings unattended when you swim
  • The southern stretch around Sailing Club is busier and louder; head north for quieter sand

Frequently asked

Are there lifeguards at Tran Phu beach?

Yes, during the day. That is a real difference from quieter beaches like Bai Dai or Doc Let.

Can I watch the sunset from this beach?

No. Nha Trang faces east, so the sun does not set over its water — the morning is when the light is on the sea. For a sunset you need height or an island.

What is the best time for a swim?

5:30–7:00 in the morning, or after 16:00. Early on the sun is still soft and the sand is at its cleanest.
