Overview

Binh Lap is a peninsula in Cam Lap commune, Cam Ranh, about 44 km south of central Nha Trang. Unlike the islands offshore, you can drive here: turn off the coast road and follow it out onto the peninsula. What the distance buys you is a set of small bays with very clear water, beaches with almost nobody on them, and fish and lobster pens moored just offshore.

This page covers Binh Lap and not Binh Ba, and the reason is regulatory. In June 2026 the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism ordered companies to stop organising, promoting or selling trips to Binh Ba island, Hon Chut (Binh Hung) and Mui Hoi in any form, under the security regulation for the Cam Ranh military base area. Decision 04/2025/QD-TTg. Plenty of operators still advertise Binh Ba online; that is the thing to skip, and Binh Lap is the road-accessible place that legally answers the same wish: an empty beach and good seafood.

The lobster here is genuine, because it is farmed in the bay. Those are the pens you can see. But ask the price per kilo before you choose one, as anywhere in this province that sells seafood, and know that this is a thinly served area: most of the eating is attached to the resorts and the raft restaurants rather than a row of places to compare.

Be clear about the trade: Binh Lap is quiet, and quiet means thin. No evening street, few shops, little shade on the sand, and the better part of an hour's drive from Nha Trang to reach it. Bring cash, bring water, and book ahead if you mean to stay. There are not many places on the peninsula.

In the same direction south: Bãi Dài on the airport road. Inside the bay: Hòn Mun and Hòn Tằm.

Don't miss

  • Clear bays and beaches with almost nobody on them
  • Lobster farmed in the bay, bought at the pens
  • Reachable by road, no boat to depend on

Practical tips

  • Ask the per-kilo price before you pick your seafood
  • Bring cash: this is a thin strip for shops and card machines
  • Little shade on the sand, hat, water, sunscreen
  • Do not book Binh Ba or Binh Hung: tourism there has been ordered to stop

Frequently asked

Is Binh Lap an island, and how do you get there?

No, it is a peninsula in Cam Lap commune, Cam Ranh, so you can drive or ride there. About 44 km from Nha Trang, the better part of an hour.

Can you still visit Binh Ba or Binh Hung?

In June 2026 the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism ordered companies to stop organising and selling trips to Binh Ba island, Hon Chut (Binh Hung) and Mui Hoi, under the security regulation for the Cam Ranh military base. Some operators still advertise them; they are the trips to skip.

What is the eating like at Binh Lap?

Mostly attached to the resorts and the raft restaurants in the bay, seafood first, with lobster farmed on the spot. There is little to compare on price, so ask the per-kilo rate first.
