Overview
The mud-bath area on Hon Tam island is the only one where you look straight out over the bay while you soak. The other four are inland, with gardens or hills to look at; here it's open water.
Do it this way: swim and do the water sports on Hon Tam in the morning, take the mud bath in the afternoon, then head back. Packages usually bundle the boat, and the bundle costs less than the parts.
This is the only one you reach by boat. Seven to ten minutes from the tourist pier. So the soak is not something you go and do on its own; it sits inside a whole day on the island, and it comes with one constraint: the last boat. Check its time before you get into the mud. Not while you are rinsing off.
Watch out
Avoid October to December: rough water stops the boats, and this is the one mud bath with no road alternative. Ask for the bundle that includes the boat before buying the parts separately.
On the same island: Hòn Tằm. Mud baths on the mainland: Tháp Bà and I-Resort.
What to choose
- A sea view while you soak, which no inland venue offers
- Combines with swimming and water sports the same day
- Packages usually include the boat transfer
Practical tips
- Buy the boat-plus-mud package rather than the parts separately
- Confirm the last boat of the day before you get in the water
- Rough seas stop the boats, so avoid October to December
